Building Compliance News March 2017

The Guidelines for Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas has changed which will have some good benefits for assessment methods. Some of the changes included.

The APZ now has to be of sufficient size to ensure the potential radiant heat impact of a bushfire does not exceed 29kW/m². The owner of a property could maintain the vegetation as far as is needed to achieve BAL 29. This makes a big difference in the construction requirements and cost of building.

This will enable the more slightly difficult project to be assessed quicker and easier.
